چکیده
The case history of a 67-year-old man who underwent a subtotal sternectomy for a tumour of the manubrium and left clavicle is reported. Histological examination revealed a highly undifferentiated metastatic carcinoma: the original tumour was not discovered but the patient was in good condition 10 months after operation. Adequate replacement and stabilization of the chest wall was obtained with autotransplantation of the tibia and muscle flaps.

Primary Osteosarcoma of the Sternum: A case Report and Review of the Literature
Osteosarcoma (osteogenic sarcoma: OS) is the most common primary malignant bone tumor of long bones, whereas primary osteosarcoma of chest wall, especially in sternum, is extremely rare. We report a 57-year-old man with an immobile slow growing mass located in the middle of the sternum. The patient had no significant pain or tenderness and the past medical history was not remarkable. CT-scan sh...
متن کاملPrimary and Secondary Tumors of the Sternum
Sternal tumors are very rare and challenging. Secondary sternal tumors are more common than primary tumors. These tumors are usually refractory to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and surgery is the best choice for their treatment. In this study, we reported the collected data of 15 patients with primary and secondary tumors of the sternum, histological type, as well as kind of resection and reco...
متن کاملChondrosarcoma from the sternum: Reconstruction with titanium mesh and a transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap after subtotal sternal excision
BACKGROUND Chondrosarcoma arising from the sternum is extremely rare and is often untreatable. Removal of the sternum for malignant tumor results in large defects in bone and soft tissue, causing deformity and paradoxical movement of the chest wall and making subsequent repair of the thorax very important. We report a very rare patient with a chondrosarcoma of the sternum who underwent case che...
متن کاملMassive chondrosarcoma of sternum: A surgical challenge in resection and reconstruction of a rare tumor
Introduction: Reconstruction of chest wall defects remains a very challenging issue and often requires prosthetic repair to prevent flail chest and paradoxical breathing. Case Report: We report a case of chest wall reconstruction following resection of a long standing, massive, well differentiated, primary chondrosarcoma of the sternum which was involving the entire body of sternum and adjoinin...
متن کاملResection of large primary chest wall chondrosarcoma with reconstruction: 2 case reports.
We report two cases of large chest wall primary chondrosarcoma, one of the sternum and the other of the lateral chest wall. Both were treated by radical resection and reconstruction using marlex mesh and methyl methacrylate "sandwich" prosthesis and pedicled latissiumus dorsi flap.
متن کاملChest reconstruction using a custom-designed polyethylene 3D implant after resection of the sternal manubrium
INTRODUCTION Resection of manubrium or body of the sternum is associated with a necessity of chest wall reconstruction. Large sternal defects require the use of different types of implants to ensure acceptable esthetic effect for the patient and chest stabilization. AIM The purpose of this case report is to present a novel method of reconstruction of manubrium removed due to renal cancer meta...
